perhaps an altered form of Sculthorpe with -ford and -fer substituted for -thorpe. Compare Mary Sculthorpe 1673 in IGI (Pakenham Suffolk) and Mary Sculthorpe 1680 in IGI (Bury Saint Edmunds Suffolk) with the 1667 and 1689 bearers below. However the 1581 form Skulforth antedates these by nearly a century. Alternatively Sculpher and Sculford from some other origin (such as (ii)) was confused with Sculthorpe.perhaps a variant of Culver alias Calver with prosthetic S-. The final syllable has sometimes been re-modelled as though it were a locative name in -forth or -ford. Compare Mary Calver 1588 in IGI (Bramfield Suffolk) with the 1581 bearer below but these may have been bearers of two unrelated family names in the same parish.
