Orkney Vad efternamn betyder
denoting someone from the Orkney Islands which are recorded as Orkas in 330 BC and Orkneya in AD 970. The name of the Islands may derive from a Celtic tribal name involving orc ‘boar’. This may have been reinterpreted by Viking settlers as Old Scandinavian ǫrkn ‘seal’ with the addition of ey ‘island’.
