Edyvean Vad efternamn betyder
from the given name Udy and its variant Edy (see Eddy) + Cornish vean ‘little’ perhaps with the sense ‘young junior’. The name seems to be exclusive to the parish of Roche where Udy is recorded as both given name and surname in the 16th century. The suffix vean was presumably added in order to distinguish different people with the same given name and surname perhaps father and son (as with the English suffix -kin). Both John Udy and John Udy Vyan (or Udyvyan) of Roche are listed in Cornwall Tinners Muster Roll (about 1535) and Subsidy Rolls (Cornwall) (1543).
