Culpin Vad efternamn betyder
apparently from Middle English colpoun ‘piece cut off a slice a chunk’ though it is not clear in what sense this was used as a surname. Redmonds notes that John Culpen a tenant of Wakefield manor in 1307 gave 15 shillings ‘to take 14½ acres and one perch of land ... in Mithomrode’ and suggests that his name may have alluded to this ‘piece’ of land.
