Whybrow Vad efternamn betyder
from the Middle English female personal name Wyburgh (Old English Wīgburg from wīg ‘battle’ + burg ‘stronghold’). possibly occasionally from Whyber in Morland (Westm) or Wyber in Soulby (also Westm) considering the bearer from 1379 although seventeenth-century forms of these place-names suggest that the first element is from Old English hwīt ‘white’ (+ beorg ‘hill’) and so some surnames in -t- would be expected. Perhaps also from Great and Little Wigborough (Essex) given the 1881 distribution of the name; the place-name derives from the Old English personal name Wicga + Old English beorg ‘hill’. Some of the bearers in (1) may belong here.
