 Virginia Gleanings in England

This book consists of abstracts of 17th and 18th-Century English wills and administrations relating to Virginia and Virginians, extracted from a long series of articles published in The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography. No table of contents is provided, but a name index is included at the back of the book.

Henry F. Waters, author of a series of articles published from 1883 to 1899 in The New England Historial and Genealogical Register titled "Genealogical Gleanings in England", accumulated during his research a number of materials relating to Virginia, which he never published. Waters' work served as an inspiration and a base for research by Lothrop Withington, who began contributing his own series, titled "Virginia Gleanings in England", to The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography in 1903. His contributions continued until his death in 1915, when he was among the 1198 passengers who perished after the British ocean liner Lusitania was torpedoed without warning off the south coast of Ireland during World War I.
