This database contains incoming and outgoing correspondence from the Adjutant General of Georgia’s office.

Historical Background

The adjutant general of Georgia was the second in command of the state militia, after the governor. This collection of correspondence form the office of Georgia’s adjutant general is often consulted for Civil War research. It contains both incoming and outgoing correspondence, much of which has to do with military business, from messages about supplies and troops to requests for commissions in the Confederate Army and other appointments or deferrals from service.
