In the early 1800's Benjamin Croom established a plantation in Tallahassee, Florida. The plantation that became known as Goodwood was built and supported by the labor of up to 200 enslaved African-American people. The only recorded stories and records I have been able to identify are those of Moses and Daphne Crooms, who left Goodwood after the Civil War and established their own family and community in Jonestown, a community near Orlando.

Goodwood eventually evolved into a country estate and then a local museum in Tallahassee, Florida.

As an educator and researcher of my own family history, I am interested in finding records and stories from the descendants of those who once worked at Goodwood during those early years. If you have information about this topic or know of those who are descendants of these people, please contact me at kcorder45@comcast.net. I am interested in helping our students hear the stories of these individuals who endured and overcame the trials and struggles of human bondage.

Thank you.
