Alma Clinkenbeard, 96, of Carlisle, widow of Allie Clinkenbeard, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Johnson Mathers Nursing Home. She was born in Nicholas County to the late Walter T. & Anna Maude WHALEY Stone.
She was a member of the Carlisle First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she had served as a deacon, elder, trustee and elder emeritus. She was a lifelong student of the Bible.
Survivors are: a son - Jack (& Patricia) Clinkenbeard, Lexington; two daughters - Anna Marie (& Donnie) Hammonds, Cowan; and Gladys Ruth (& Cecil) Shrout, Carlisle; five granddaughters - Donnita Hughes, Beth Linville, Jacqueline Hawkins, Connitha Tyrer and Evelyn Ruth Shrout; six great grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
Services were conducted Saturday, September 21, at Mathers-Gaunce funeral Home by Rev. James Doughton, Rev. Michael Schmidt and friend of the family Julie Metzger. Burial was in Carlisle Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Phil Ecton, Phillip McDonald, Mike Rawlings, Dr. Leon Riggs, Dr. Robert Sparks and Dorsey Watkins.
Honorary bearers were Pearl Baker, Dr. Stephen Besson, Connie Cassini, Ewell Clinkenbeard, Jock Conley, Billy Dale Crawford, Cindy Hughes, Betty Ishmael, James Lowe, Dr. W. R. Kingsolver, Dr. William McKemie, Rose Scott, Martha Taylor, Billy Terrell, Jimmy Wells and the West Wing nursing staff of Johnson Mathers Nursing Home.
Contributions are suggested to the Johnson Mathers Nursing Home Activities Fund or Nicholas County Tourism.
